Combating Humidity in Your Home This Fall

Fall may have technically come via the calendar, but here in Arkansas its still hot and humid. We may be used to having the air hug us every time we walk outside, but that humidity can be detrimental to our crawl space and home.

Humidity in the crawl space can lead to a lot of problems. When the humidity levels in the crawl space go above 60%, mold, musty odors, and wood decay occur at quick rate. That crawl space air seeps into the home spreading mold spores and other unhealthy things into the air you are breathing.

Signs of a Humid Crawl Space

Here are a few signs your crawl space may be struggling with high levels of humidity:

• Musty smells in the home
• Falling down insulation in the crawl space
• Floors that sag when you walk on them
• Condensation

3. Sealing the vents. Sealing up the vents in a crawl space helps to prevent outside air and moisture from seeping in. This is just one way to help keep your crawl space protected from high humidity!
