Encapsulation or Vapor Barrier?

Is a vapor barrier better than an encapsulation? Why do we need any of it? Truth be told, there's a lot of confusion out there about crawl spaces, and as a homeowner, we want you to have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

A vapor barrier is typically Visqueen, usually with a thickness similar to that of a vinyl shower curtain. The builder of your home probably put something similar down when your house was first completed, and it may or may not have been replaced since. It also may or may not have been ripped, bunched up, used as nesting material for unwanted pests, or be holding water. A vapor barrier that allows moisture to come up from the ground is just as damaging as having nothing at all in your crawl space.  Visqueen is fairly inexpensive, but you get what you pay for; you'll be back under your home in just a few years putting more and more down trying to protect your home from moisture. An encapsulation with CleanSpace is different.

We use products that are designed to isolate your home from the earth, and not just temporarily. Our products are designed to work together to make your home cleaner, drier, and healthier, so you aren't having to redo the work every few years. Plus, our CleanSpace Liner is secured in place and almost impossible to tear through. Encapsulating your crawl space means protecting your investment for the long term. It also makes your home more energy efficient, meaning your HVAC system isn't having to work quite so hard to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. A vapor barrier can't do that.
